She tells Eren that she intends to join the Survey Corps with him for his protection, remembering her childhood when her parents were killed by human traffickers, though she was saved by Eren. Eren overhears Jean's selfish talk and is angered, believing that humanity should fight the Titans and discover their weaknesses rather than running.
